It is June and we can revisit a treat from childhood. IT’S IT!
This treat is a San Francisco creation from a guy named George Whitney who in 1928 put a scoop of vanilla ice cream between two oatmeal cookies and dipped the whole sandwich in dark chocolate. IT’S ITs used to be sold exclusively at Playland-at-the-Beach, our beloved amusement park across the street from Ocean Beach.
Here are some experts who are reviewing the current versions of IT’S ITs:
Playland-at-the-Beach closed on Labor Day of 1972. But IT’S ITs live on and have gained popularity. They are now available in stores in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Arizona, Texas and New York. And there are eight flavors of ice cream, including green tea!
Now, guide books to San Francisco explain that an IT’S IT is a, “San Francisco experience.” The factory is located close to San Francisco Airport and has become a tourist stop. Also, with our technology, the treats can be ordered online and delivered to you.
Just to get you in the mood for the new season, here are the Lovin’ Spoonful from 1966 singing, “Summer in the City.”
