Compassion for all Creatures

In 1868, a San Francisco banker saw two men dragging a terrified hog along a cobblestone street. The hog was saved by the banker and he mobilized other San Franciscans to create what is now our Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or SPCA. It was the fourth SPCA in the nation and the first west of the Mississippi. Continue reading
