It is almost time to celebrate Christmas 2017. And traditions are important.
In the 1960s, we enjoyed the talent of a singer who did not get much recognition then. She was under contract to Phil Spector in the early 1960s and she was the lead singer on the song, “He’s a Rebel.” Spector released the record giving credit to his singing group The Crystals instead of Darlene Love and the Blossoms. The song became number one on the Billboard 100 Chart in November of 1962.
Here is the original song:
Love sang a Christmas song on Spector’s 1963 LP, “A Christmas Gift to You.”
Then in 1986, David Letterman invited Love to sing her song on his show:
In May of 2009, Spector was sentenced to 19 years to life in a California State prison for a second degree murder conviction.
For 28 years, Letterman had Love return to sing her song on his show. Here she is on Letterman’s last Christmas show in 2014.
She is still singing. In 2017, she turned 76 years old.
