It is time to get ready for Chinese New Year. On February 16, 2018, San Francisco’s Chinatown, the largest Chinatown in the United States, will welcome the Year of the Dog, or if you prefer, 4716 on the lunar calendar. The Dog is the eleventh of all zodiac animals. And the celebrations last for most of the month of February 2018.
Here is a little of what to expect from the traditional Chinese New Year’s Parade. As you can see from this clip, you do not need to be Chinese to participate in this event. San Francisco is a multicultural city.
This year the parade is scheduled for Saturday, February 24. But there are events in our Chinatown starting on Saturday, February 10. A new Miss Chinatown USA will be crowned on Thursday, February 22. And the last event, produced by the Chinatown YMCA, is the 40th annual “Chinese New Year Run” on Sunday, March 4.
