Muhammad Ali died at age 74 on June 3, 2016. He was “the Champ” and visited San Francisco many times.
Here he is in 1967 on Fillmore Street. He had announced that he would not serve in the military because of his religious beliefs:

Before he became Muhammad Ali, Cassisus Clay was at the Cow Palace with Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes in 1963. Pictured above are Ronnie with  Dee Dee Sharp and Little Stevie Wonder. The Ronettes recorded “Be My Baby” in July of 1963. Perhaps they sang it to “the Champ.”
