Are you grateful every time you go to the refrigerator to find something good to eat? Perhaps Thanksgiving can help to remind us that not all people can perform this simple task that so many of us take for granted.
In 1950, Franciscan friar Alfred Boeddeker created the St. Anthony’s Dining Room program (http://www.stanthonysf.org ) in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. Please take a look at some of the people who are receiving the more than 2,600 hot meals that this program serves every day:
As you are getting ready for your Thanksgiving celebration, a group of volunteers are getting ready to help some needy citizens to also enjoy the holiday in the City. Founded in 1970, Meals On Wheels of San Francisco (https://www.mowsf.org ) provides food and a connection to a larger world. Of the approximately 2,800 people served through the program, 65% live alone and 24% have no other source of food. Here is a clip about the volunteers who delivered last year’s Thanksgiving feast:
If you are making holiday plans for events and gifts, perhaps you can add a gift to a worthwhile program, such as St. Anthony Foundation and Meals On Wheels of San Francisco, to your list.
Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
