The 1967 movie “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”
was set in The City. Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn star along with Sidney Poitier and Katharine Houghton, who is Hepburn’s real-life niece.
This was Spencer Tracy’s last film role. On June 10, 1967, seventeen days after completing the film, he died of a massive heart attack at age 67. In 1968, the film got 10 Oscar nominations and won in two categories.
In one scene, Tracy and Hepburn are out for a drive and they pull into Mel’s Drive-In. According to movie trivia, they never actually visited the real location. Quiz: where was this real drive-in located?
