Ever wish you could see some familiar City sites “back in the day?” My high school friend Gail sent me a link to a site that offers hundreds of photographs of The City from the San Francisco Public Library’s Historical Photograph Collection – with a new twist – the photos are categorized by year and connected to an interactive map.
Dan Vanderkam and Raven Keller put together a fabulous site called www.oldsf.org. Dan says they have 13,000 of the 40,000 digitized images available on the map. You bring up the site, slide the bar at the top to the years you want to view, and then click on a location. Up on the right side you see a collection of photos from that location during the years selected.
Dan also says, “while this is not a San Francisco Public Library project, it is done with their blessing.” Browse The City’s visual history and enjoy.
