Like the rest of the United States, on February 9, 1964, San Franciscans were introduced to the Beatles on the “Ed Sullivan Show.” Later in 1964, San Franciscans had our own version of the Beatles with our fab five,
the Beau Brummels band.
This local group took their name from a 19th century English dandy and wore suits that looked English. Check out the hair cuts in this clip of their 1965 Top 20 hit called, “Laugh Laugh.”
These boys may have followed the Beatles but have been credited with helping to create the San Francisco Sound. Their “Laugh, Laugh” song is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the “500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.”
By the time their famous song came out, there were departures from the group. So the best you can do is to enjoy some of their original material including another popular song at the time called, “Just a Little.”
