San Francisco New Year

It’s almost time to say good-bye to another year. Before we welcome 2012, I hope you will do some time-travel back to 1967 with Scott McKenzie singing, “San Francisco,” where he reminds us to, ”wear some flowers in your hair.”

The story goes that McKenzie wore a garland of flowers while he recorded the song. And his friends sat on the floor in the recording studio, meditating. On this YouTube clip, you will see some black and white images of Golden Gate Park and the Haight in 1967 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SB2tYYYlwMc

Turns out that the song was written by John Phillips of The Mamas and The Papas. McKenzie calls his famous song, “a personal anthem of hope and freedom.” Retired and living in Los Angeles, McKenzie stills occasionally performs. Here is McKenzie performing “San Francisco” in May of 2011, shown with some color images of flower children from back-in-the-day –

May our new year bring everyone peace and joy.

Best wishes,

Carol
