If you are reading this, I am guessing you need a break from your Christmas preparations. How about a little song from our home town guy, Johnny Mathis?
John Royce Mathis was the fourth of seven children, growing up on 32nd Avenue on the Richmond district. Besides training his beautiful voice, he was a high school athlete on George Washington High School’s track and basketball teams. He attended San Francisco State on an athletic scholarship, planning to become a teacher. Glad he rethought that decision. This last September 30, he turned 80 years old.
And just before Christmas, you can see The City just like Santa Claus may see it as he and his reindeer fly high in the sky. The last images are of the Tom and Jerry House in the Castro, on 21st Street between Church and Sanchez.
