San Francisco has been a star in many movies. In 1968, Steve McQueen took the audience on ride through The City for one of most memorable 9 minutes and 42 seconds of any film. The car chase sequence in the movie “Bullitt” is considered a masterpiece in film history. The locations used in the movie inspired Ray Smith to present a Web page where he shows locations from the movie and comparison photos that he took from 2000-2002.
Ray is a computer security expert who used to commute from his home in Costa Mesa to The City to work for financial firms. He saw locations he remembered from the film and started doing what he calls “lots of detective work.” He also got some help from Steve McQueen fans.
“I enjoyed running around San Francisco and environs and taking photos,” said Ray. “At one point, the San Francisco police asked me why I was standing in the middle of the street. After I told the officer what I was up to, being a fellow Steve McQueen fan, he blocked traffic so I could get the shots and not get run over.”
