There were female singing groups and male singing groups that we loved in the 1960s. The ones with the flashy outfits and the choreography are stored in our memories. Here are the Temptations in 1969.
Dennis Edwards joined the group in 1968 and was the lead singer after David Ruffin. Edwards died on February 1 in Chicago at the age of 74.
Edwards had a Bay Area connection. He was briefly married to Ruth Pointer from Oakland, a member of the Pointer Sisters singing group. Although the Pointer Sisters began performing in clubs in 1969, their hit recordings happened in the 1980s.
The couple was married in 1977 and had one daughter, Issa Pointer, who followed in her parents footsteps.
